About Test:

This comprehensive panel of tests measures the presence of certain antibodies of the IgG type that indicate respiratory infection. The IgG antibodies are produced after initial exposure to these diseases, and indicate a recent infection with a particular disease.

Components Included:

Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 IgG:
This blood test measures the presence of antibodies produced in response to bacteria that cause Legionnaires disease, which causes pneumonia, and Pontiac fever, which leads to a viral fever like illness, accompanied by pneumonia. Positive result for IgG antibodies indicates recent infection with the bacteria.

Mycoplasma pneumoniae IgG:
This blood test measures antibodies produced in response to infection with bacteria that causes “walking pneumonia”, which is an atypical pneumonia with much milder symptoms. Positive results for IgG antibodies indicates recent infection.

Coxiella burnetti IgG:
This blood test measures antibodies produced in response to infection with Zoonoses or Q fever, which lead to mild flu like symptoms. In severe cases, such infection leads to pneumonia and possible loss of fetus during pregnancy. Positive results for IgG antibodies indicate recent infection.

Chlamydia pneumoniae IgG:
This blood test is used to measure antibodies produced in response to common pneumonia infections, that may lead to severe cough, or very mild symptoms. Positive results for IgG antibodies indicate recent infection.

 Adenovirus IgG:
This blood test is used to measure antibodies produced in response to infection with the common cold/flu (can lead to fever, cough, runny nose), and conjunctivitis or ‘pink-eye’. Positive results for IgG antibodies indicate recent infection.

Respiratory syncytial virus IgG:
This blood test is used to measure antibodies produced in response to lower respiratory tract infections. Positive results for IgG antibodies indicate recent infection.

Influenza A IgG:
This blood test is used to measure antibodies produced in response to influenza A, which is found in birds, and mammals such as humans. Influenza A is extremely contagious, lead to flu like symptoms, and even cause large epidemics. Positive results for IgG antibodies indicate recent infection.

Influenza B IgG:
This blood test is used to measure antibodies produced in response to influenza B, which is found in humans. Influenza B can be contagious, and leads to flu like symptoms. Positive results for IgG antibodies indicate recent infection.

Parainfluenza 1,2,3 IgG:
This blood test is used to measure antibodies produced in response to parainfluenza 1,2 and 3 which causes both upper and lower respiratory infections, resulting in bronchitis and severe coughing, pneumonia and even croup (hoarse voice, barking cough, often seen in young children). Positive results for IgG antibodies indicate recent infection.
At our laboratory in Mumbai, we recommend this panel as it provides a quick diagnosis for several kinds of respiratory infections.

About Disease

What is respiratory infection?

When airways inhale bacteria, viruses or fungi, it may lead to respiratory infections, that cause runny noses, blocked airways and severe cough. Some organisms can lead to atypical forms of pneumonia, which is accompanied by dry or no cough.
