About Test:

This panel of tests is recommended for senior citizens (age greater than 60 years), because a more comprehensive health checkup is needed for those with advanced age. This panel tests for a lot of lifestyle related disorders such as CVD, Atherosclerosis, Diabetes, Nutritional status, Kidney disorders, liver disorders, Malignancy and Infections, which commonly affect older individuals

Medical condition:

Information not available

Test preparation:

For this panel, 10-12 hours of fasting prior to the test is needed. A urine sample is needed, along with a stool sample for this test. It is preferred if this test is performed in the morning.

Components Included:

CBC:

The Complete Blood Count is a test that provides information about the composition of our blood. It measures the partial and differential white blood cells, red blood cells, as well as platelets.

Urine routine:

This test of the urine is a cost-effective screening to evaluate color, appearance, volume, density, pH, glucose, proteins, blood cells, glucose, bile salts, pigments and infective elements in the urine. Presence of red blood cells, pus cells, and crystals may give an idea about urinary infections.

Stool routine:

This analysis of the stool helps to detect parasitic infections and issues of the intestines. The composition of the stool can be analyzed to look at presence of blood or infective elements in order to detect diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, dysentery, pancreatic issues, typhoid, lactose intolerance. Parasitic infections transmitted through food can also be detected by this test

ESR:

The Erythrocyte sedimentation rate helps to see how fast Red Blood Cells in unclotted blood settle down in a tall tube. During inflammation, red blood cells clump close together and settle faster, resulting in high ESR. This test is useful to detect inflammatory issues such as polymyalgia and arthritis.

Albumin/ Microalbumin in the urine:

This measures levels of albumin in the urine, which may leak out during urine filtration. This is related to heart disease, kidney disease, in respiratory distress, or in extreme cases, organ failure. Comparing creatinine and albumin to obtain a ratio helps to gauge whether an individual has microalbuminuria

HBSag :

This blood test measures the levels of Hepatitis B surface antigen. This antigen appears in large quantities during infection, and stays in blood around 1-5 weeks after. In positive cases, patient has a higher chance of transmitting disease, or may be infected. These individuals have higher chance of getting chronic liver disease.

Lipid profile:

This group of blood tests measures the levels different kinds of lipids in the blood, such as Low density lipoprotein, high density lipoprotein, very low density lipoprotein, triglycerides. It is useful to indicate risk for heart problems, and can identify certain genetic issues as well

Serum apolipoprotein:

This test measures apolipoproteins, which are responsible to transport lipids in the blood. Issues may be seen in case of atherosclerosis, tangier’s disease and coronary artery disease

Creatinine:

This blood test measures levels of Creatinine, which is a waste product from the muscles, filtered out by kidneys. High creatinine levels may indicate high risk for stones, and also chance of kidney failure and other renal issues.

Uric acid:

This test measures levels of blood uric acid, which is a waste product often produced from foods like red meat, and released in urine. Uric acid levels in case of gout may be quite high. High levels may also indicate a risk for impairment of kidney functioning (kidney failure)

Total Proteins:

This test helps to measure levels of specific proteins (albumin, globulin) in the blood. Low levels of protein usually indicate low levels of albumin in the blood, and may indicate lupus, or liver or kidney disease.

Estimation of blood sugar (Fasting & Post prandial):

These blood tests measure glucose in the blood, which comes from carbohydrates. Glucose gives us energy and is regulated by insulin in the blood. Low levels indicate hypoglycemia, and very high glucose levels may indicate diabetes.

C.A. 125:

This blood test is a tumor marker. It is used to help detect the presence of the antibody CA 125, which helps detect ovarian cancer. The body produces higher concentrations of this antibody in case of ovarian cancer.

CEA:

This blood test is a tumor marker. It is used to help detect the presence of the antibody CEA, which helps detect cancers of the colon and rectum. The body produces these antibodies in higher quantities in case of these cancers. However, it is also present in early fetal life, and in the blood of smokers

TSH:

This blood test detects levels of Thyroid Stimulating Hormone secreted by the pituitary gland, which controls the secretion of other thyroid hormones. This test is a good indicator of issues with the thyroid such as hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism

SGOT:

This blood test measures the levels of SGOT, which is an enzyme present in the liver, skeletal, muscle, brain, red blood cells and the heart. High concentrations of SGOT may indicate damaged tissues, especially an injury of the liver

SGPT:

This blood test measures the levels of SGPT, which is an enzyme present in the liver, heart, kidneys and skeletal muscles. High concentrations of SGPT may indicate damaged tissues, especially an injury of the liver

Total bilirubin:

This blood test measures levels of bilirubin which is produced during breaking down of hemoglobin. Both conjugated and unconjugated bilirubin make up the total concentration in blood. Elevated bilirubin occurs in diseases of the liver, and in hemolysis.

Alk Po4:

This test measures levels of alkaline phosphatase (important enzyme that helps break proteins) in blood. Levels of this enzyme are highest in the bone marrow and liver. Measuring Alk Po4 levels helps to warn against and monitor treatment for diseases of the bone, parathyroid and liver

Calcium:

This test helps to measure blood calcium levels. Calcium, obtained especially from dairy products, helps in bone formation and maintaining bone health. This test is useful to detect issues with the kidney, in case of calcium deposits in stones.
